Burnt

Probably all done. It's coming up on a month since I posted anything, and I'm not feeling much motivation to break the drought.

you'll be back!

just when you thought you were out... the nytimes will publish something condescending about non-nyc-based playwrights!

Well, things are worse than that: I'm not reading any of the theatre blogs, either.

Don't worry. Just do what you are compelled to. Don't feel bad, if you aren't compelled...just work on what energizes you.

I read somewhere (I think it was on the back wall in the background of a graphic designer in the documentary "Helvetica"):

Guilt and self laceration are indulgences.

Indulge in the time you need to do the things you love, that feed you, that make your roots a twitter with electricity.

Practice a little caudal autonomy, baby!

Don't.

Read that Seth Godin book you posted about a while back. "Tribes". you can get an illegal uncorrected proofs version really easily (alibiris.com)

It's great. It's a 150 page pep talk full of direct appeals, positive reinforcement and enthusiastic predictions. It's almost silly, except for the fact that he's got some amazingly good points at the root of all of it.

The idea that thousands of people will soon have that book in their hands means that thousands more people, even if they don't practice what Godin preaches, will at least understand what those of us who do are up to.

Eh. I'm writing about pro wrestling. You don't have to read my blog.

I think you should:

play with your sweet dog
make a meal that takes all day to prepare
then, check out UT Austin's MA/MFA/PhD program called Performance as Public Practice to get some ideas for UNCA. Cluster? Minor? Major?

I'm going through the same funk. I want to take a break from theatre in town and focus on the little things that bring me joy without the stress involved with theatre: keeping a inviting and creative living space, sewing for ME, making delicious meals, painting, dancing. Then I dream a little by looking at that UT Austin program...

Take your time...

Every once in a while, I think I'll post a link or two to posts written earlier in the life of Theatre Ideas that seem worth revisiting ...
